Its main means of subsistence is agricultural activity; they produce potatoes, geese, barley and beans; Cattle and cattle stand out in cattle activity. Its textile activity is similar to that of Taquile, both in variety and design. Due to the existence of granite rock on the Llacastiti hill, an activity has been developed for cutting and carving utensils for everyday use and for decorative elements in construction.
The occupation of the island dates back to pre-Inca times. By the 1580s the island was sold by King Carlos V to Spaniard Pedro González.2
From that moment the island was in the hands of the gamonales descendants of the Spaniards. In the early 1900s, as a result of severe droughts, the hacendados began selling the land to the natives. Approximately in the 1950s the Amantani peasants had acquired almost the entirety of the island. They have adopted an organization based on kinship and the reciprocity of family property work on land parcels.
