Peru: Climbing Volcano Chachani Tour

Climbing the Majestic Chachani Volcano in Arequipa, Peru

02 Days/01 Night   April to November   Moderate

About Arequipa: Arequipa is the capital of the colonial era of the Arequipa region of Peru. It is surrounded by 3 volcanoes and has baroque buildings built of sillar, a white volcanic stone. In its historical center, there is the Plaza de Armas, an imposing main square, and to the north of it is the Neoclassical Cathedral Basilica of the 17th century, which houses a museum exhibiting works of art and religious objects.

Nevado Chachani is the highest of the mountains near the city of Arequipa in southern Peru. Its name means “skirt” in Quechua, and a female character is normally attributed to the mountain in local legends.

As a result of the very low precipitation in the Arequipa area, Chachani does not have a permanent ice cap or glaciers. Climbing Chachani is popular, though the altitude is considered highly challenging for those who are not fully acclimatized.

The Chachani is a volcano located 55 km from the city of Arequipa, in southern Peru. In spite of its considerable height, the snow is very scarce in its summit, due to the extreme dryness prevailing in the western slope of the Andes of the south of Peru
